Guest topcarp2 Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 the passengers side is the one on top on my mk1 gal...and yeah ur right the drivers side one leaves part of the screen un-wiped...wish i had the answer cos its a pain in the butt.... Quote
Guest marcusheawood Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 ...and the answer is... The car was designed and made in Portugal for a predominantly left hand drive market (like most modern cars) and that is why the passenger side gets a better wipe. The linkage would have to be re-designed and a relatively small batch made for right-hand drive, and that would be far too expensive for the manufacturers to bother with! Quote
MrT Posted August 25, 2005 Report Posted August 25, 2005 It must be odd that mine was built in Portugal yet they put the wipers the correct way around for RHD. Quote

MrT Posted August 25, 2005 Report Posted August 25, 2005 It should not be a problem to swap them around by moving them on the shafts. You have to take care about the area the wipe afterwards and make sure they do not collide with the trim, the edge of the windscreen or each other. IIRC on the MK1s some had identical length blades and some had one about 2" shorter to stop them colliding. Not sure if the different sized ones was a bodge on the LHD to RHD conversion. Quote
